You may wonder what materials are used in the manufacturing of tents? The basics of tent making involve fabric and sturdier materials for the tent poles. So, what are the most commonly used materials in the making of tents?

The list includes polyester, polyamide, polyurethane, polyethylene, nylon, and cotton. Apart from cotton, all of these materials are made from petroleum and require chemical transformations, which gives them a significant environmental impact.

At Cabanon, we are committed to exploring greener alternatives. We are currently working on projects to manufacture tents from linen and jute, both locally sourced materials.

In terms of recycled materials for eco-friendly camping tents, recycled plastic and recycled cotton are viable options. This allows for less extraction of raw materials while giving a new life to already used materials.

However, when choosing a tent, it's crucial to consider the chemicals used for waterproofing, such as PFCs (perfluorocarbons). While PFCs make the fabric water-resistant and water-repellent, they come with major environmental drawbacks.

Cabanon pays particular attention to the use of PFCs and is committed to minimizing their environmental impact. It is important to ensure that your future tent does not contain PVC, a non-recyclable material.

Before buying a tent, check if it has undergone "green" anodizing, which guarantees limited use of chemicals and the elimination of toxic substances.
